Love must be sincere… Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.… Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
My name is Julie DenHerder and I am the Worship and Music Ministry Director at Mount Olive Lutheran Church
and School in Des Moines, Iowa. The Lord has laid it on my heart to provide an opportunity for musicians from
across the state of Iowa to show their gratitude to our nation’s veterans by offering a concert in their honor at the
2013 Iowa State Fair. An open invitation will be sent to active duty military personnel, veterans, and families of
the fallen heroes from The Global War on Terror. These families will also be asked to decorate the area below
their designated flag in the flag memorial. To date, 90 plus Iowans have given their life to preserve our freedom.
I am very excited to announce that with the help of Iowa District West, we will be presenting a Military Tribute Concert the afternoon of August 12, 2013 at the Iowa State Fair’s Knapp Stage! The planning committee and I would like to invite you to be a part of this two-day event!
- Choir (160 voices)
- Full orchestra ranging from ages 13 and older (80 members)
- Difficulty level: 3-4 moderate to moderately advanced
- Children’s choir, ages 5-12 years of age.
In addition to the concert, we will support Operation Barnabas. This network gives care to our nation’s military members and their families. Information regarding how you can support those in need through Operation Barnabas will be sent at a later date.
It is our hope to convey to Iowa’s veterans, as well as their families, how grateful we are for those who have served our country and are currently serving.
